「tente」（テンテ）は、「MY 1st CORAL」をコンセプトにした宝石サンゴのジュエリーです。てんてとは愛媛県宇和島などで使われる方言で、「ちっちゃな手」という意味です。「tente」は小さな赤、白、ピンク、オレンジなど、主に高知県・土佐湾で採れる宝石サンゴと地中海の上質な宝石サンゴを使用しています。
紅色のサンゴを1粒あしらったシンプルなネックレス。18金のきらきら輝くミラーボールとのバランスもかわいい。

宝石サンゴは土佐湾と地中海が主な産地です。特に土佐湾のものは高品質と評価され、欧米の一流ジュエリーブランドが採用しています。地中海のサンゴは濃いが赤が特徴で、ファッション性の高いイタリア製などによく使われています。
昭和初期頃までは日本の女性にとってサンゴは欠かせないアクセサリーでした。髪飾りや帯留めにあしらわれました。今では、日本の宝石サンゴの90％が海外輸出向けです。このままでは日本でつける人がいなくなり、日本のサンゴの彫り職人や文化が途絶えてしまうため、多くの人に親しみやすいサイズ、価格帯のサンゴのジュエリー「tente」が発案されました。
宝石サンゴは表面のキメが細かく、表面が曇ってきても磨き直すことができ、新品のような光沢を取り戻す、永続性のあるジュエリーです。
造礁サンゴというハワイなどでお土産で売っている浅瀬で育つ種類は磨くことができません。宝石サンゴは100mと以上の深海で育ち、成長が遅く、1mm成長するために10年かかります。そのため、保全や養殖にも取り組んでいます。養殖真珠のように1~3年で採り、ジュエリーに加工するのでなく、100年後の日本の海の環境保全のために行っています。職業、文化、環境のバランスを採りながら制作されているのが、「tente」をはじめとする日本の宝石サンゴです。

TENTE is jewelry made of gem coral which the concept is “MY 1st CORAL”. Tente is a dialect used in Uwajima, Ehime, and other areas, and means “tiny hands”. TENTE is made of small red, white, pink, and orange gem coral, mainly from Tosa Bay in Kochi Prefecture, and fine gem coral from the Mediterranean Sea.
This simple necklace features a single red coral and is cutely balanced with a sparkling 18k gold mirror ball.

Tosa Bay and the Mediterranean Sea are the main sources of gem coral. Coral from Tosa Bay in particular is highly regarded for its high quality and is used by top jewelry brands in Europe and the United States. Mediterranean coral is characterized by its dark but red color and is often used for fashionable Italian products.
Until the early Showa period, coral was an indispensable accessory for Japanese women. It was adorned with hair ornaments and obi clips. Today, 90% of Japan’s gem coral is destined for overseas export. If this trend continues, there will be fewer people in Japan to wear them, and the Japanese coral carvers and culture will cease to exist.
Gem coral has a fine surface texture, and even if the surface becomes cloudy, it can be polished again, restoring a new luster and permanence to the jewelry.
Reef-building coral that grows in shallow waters is familiar for souvenirs in Hawaii and other places, but cannot be polished. Gem coral grows in deep water at depths of 100 meters and above and is slow growing, taking 10 years to grow 1mm. For this reason, the Kochi coral industry is working on conservation and cultivation. They do not cultivate corals like pearls, which are harvested after 1~3 years and processed into jewelry, but rather preserve the environment of Japan’s oceans for the next 100 years. Japanese jewelry coral such as TENTE is produced while seeking a balance between occupation, culture, and the environment.
